Why I started Top Tutors Scotland
The founder's story, in his own words.
The story
My passion for tutoring comes from my own experience as a student. At school I was surrounded by ambitious friends who wanted to be doctors, engineers and entrepreneurs. I knew I loved maths and physics, but I was not naturally the top student. When I got B grades in my National 5 Maths and Physics prelims I was disappointed, especially as many of my friends had achieved As.
Everything changed when my maths teacher pulled me aside and said: ‘Don’t let this B define your potential. I know you’re capable of more, and I’ll help you get there.’ Those words gave me the confidence and the motivation to work harder. With the right guidance and support I went on to achieve A grades in Maths, Physics and my other National 5 and Higher subjects.
That experience shaped the person I am today. I founded Top Tutors Scotland because I know every student has potential, but not every student learns the same way, or believes in themselves when it matters most.
My goal is to provide the encouragement, the personalised support and the real-world context that transformed my own confidence and results. I don’t just teach students how to pass exams. I help them believe they can succeed.
I didn’t start Top Tutors because learning came easily to me. I started it because I know what it feels like when it doesn’t.
